Cover Front: RCA Victor logo and number at upper right. May or may not have sticker on front with contents list. The sticker may show Side 2 Track 4 as either The Girl Next Door or “The Girl Next Door Went A’ Walking”1. The second cover front has contents printed on front cover with “Girl Next Door Went A’ Walking” with RE lower left corner. In any case, the contents on the cover will be the same as those listed on the label on the vinyl.

This cover is unique in that unlike all other simultaneous stereo and mono releases, the cover slics are unique. Note the positioning of the album title Elvis is Back! where Elvis is above Elvis’ left ear. On the Stereo release, the title and song titles are shifted down so that the Living Stereo bar across the top could be placed. In this case, the title part Elvis is on top of Elvis’ left ear. Also note that the RCA copyright on the lower left corner of the monaural covers is in white lettering and on the stereo covers is in black lettering. All covers after this release used one front album slic and shifted the cover downward so that the stereo catalog numbers appear on top of the cover or shifted upward so that the monaural catalog numbers appear on bottom.

A note about the black oblong “MIRACLE SURFACE” sticker. It reads, “This record contains the revolutionary new antistatic ingredient, 317X, which helps keep the record dust free, helps prevent surface noise, helps insure faithful sound reproduction on LIVING STEREO records.” It can be found on many LIVING STEREO titles of that period and in great numbers. However with this title, Elvis Is Back!, it can be nearly impossible to track one down. Two copies were found in Italy. This is a mockup of one of those copies, complete with the yellow sticker.23

Update: November 28, 2020. I am making a bold assertion based on other Living Stereo pressings by other artists on the RCA label during this period, a pattern can be seen. Copies with the Living Stereo and Miracle Surface printed on the cover as a banner with the RCA Victor box directly below, as seen with this Elvis Is Back! will NOT have the Miracle Surface sticker. Releases with the Living Stereo and the RCA Victor box in the banner and without the Miracle Surface directly printed on the cover may be found with the Miracle Surface sticker. Look for yourself. That being said, these copies found with the Miracle Surface sticker are likely done in error further strengthening their position as scarce!

2231-sticker-ver12231-sticker-v2

Sticker: Contains contents. The sticker may be 3.25″ x 3″ in size and show Side 2 Track 4 as The Girl Next Door or be 3.25″ x 3.25″ in size and show “The Girl Next Door Went A’ Walking”.

This is the likely order in which this album was released, for both the monaural and stereo releases. “The Girl Next Door” – no sticker, no contents on cover. “The Girl Next Door” – with sticker, no contents on cover. “The Girl Next Door Went A’ Walking” – with sticker, no contents on cover. “Girl Next Door Went A’ Walking” – no sticker, contents on cover. As a general rule, the cover should match the contents on the label of the record. Also note the “corrected” sticker with “The Girl Next Door Went A’ Walking” is also the incorrect title, as the title on the printed cover and all vinyl releases is Girl Next Door Went A’ Walking dropping the “The” from the title.
